Warm The Soul With 5 Hot Breakfast Ideas

The birds are singing, and the sky is clear… Clear and white, and somewhat dark? It is definitely winter. Time for snuggly mornings with blankets, heaters, Netflix and WARM food. So breakfast should be no different. As much as we love acai bowls, it's time to learn 5 recipes to get you through this cold season. 

 

Traditional Japanese Style Breakfast

 Since we can’t travel at the moment, why not bring a bit of Japan to you? It’s a relatively easy but fancy breakfast meal. Take yourself back to the hotel breakfasts in Osaka with this recipe. 

 

Ingredients

  • Japanese Rice

  • Miso paste or instant packs of miso soup

  • Liquid Dashi 

  • Tofu and Wakame Seaweed (if you feel like it)

  • Salmon fillet with skin on 

  • Shio Koji Paste (or mix soy sauce and miso paste for a simple marinade)

  • Soy Sauce

 Recipe: 

  1. Wash and boil the rice.
  2. Make the miso soup.

    1. Make the instant miso soup OR

    2. Boil water in a small saucepan and add miso paste until it is smooth, then (optional) add in tofu and wakame seaweed. 

    3. Add soy sauce if you need it to be saltier!

  3. Spread Shio Koji paste on the fillet the night before and let marinate for a day (or at least an hour). Pan-fry according to taste (at least 3 mins on both sides).

  4. Serve with matcha, for a more authentic feel!

 

Oats With Cinnamon, Banana + Honey

As much as we would love to be able to have all the time available in the world in the mornings, it’s just not possible when you’re a working individual. So to make sure you still leave the house feeling good inside, try this quick and super easy recipe! Super healthy for you too!

Ingredients

  • Oats (we recommend the Uncle Tobys Oats Porridge Quick Sachets because they only take 90 seconds!)

  • Banana (not too green or ripe)

  • Ground cinnamon 

  • Honey

 

 Recipe: 

  1. Make the oats, according to package instructions.

  2. Sprinkle cinnamon and honey on the cooked oats.

  3. Slice bananas, and place them on top.

  4. Stir all together and eat!

Indian Style Breakfast

Indian food has always been most people’s comfort food, because of the warm feeling it provides whilst also being super tasty. So why should that be any different for breakfast? This breakfast option is an easier version of a very traditional breakfast eaten, primarily, by the people of Kolkata and Punjab as well as most Indians too! 

Ingredients

  • Freshly made roti (buy a pack from your local Indian grocery store! Or try your local grocery stores, rotis are quite popular these days)

  • Cauliflower, eggplant, beans, pumpkin (whichever vegetable you prefer!)

  • Spices (1 tsp of mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, cinnamon sticks, ½ green chilli and 1 bay leaf) or you could try a ready-made spice mix if these are too hard to find

 

 Recipe: 

  1. Heat oil in a frying pan

  2. Add all the spices and saute for 1 minute 

  3. Add all the vegetables + 1 cup of water 

  4. Mix everything together

  5. Cover with a lid and let cook for 12- 14 minutes 

  6. Serve with warmed up roti

English Breakfast Spread

If you need a feed, this is it. This great option for a warm breakfast is the epitome of the ideal Western breakfast - eggs, bread, beans, bacon. This has EVERYTHING and is the perfect way to start the weekend. 

Ingredients

  • Sausages

  • English bacon 

  • Eggs (two per plate) 

  • Tomatoes (two per plate)

  • Mushrooms

  • Bread

  • Baked Beans

 

 Recipe: 

  1. Prepare baked beans as directed on the package

  2. Fry the sausages and bacon in the same pan

  3. Put the sausages and bacon to one side, then in the same oil cook the cut mushrooms and tomatoes

  4. Place to the side, fry the bread and eggs - we recommend sunny side up!

  5. Plate the delish meal!

Sweet French Toast

Feel like you’re in a classy cafe with the classic breakfast option - French Toast. Sweet, and warm with a cup of coffee, it's the perfect way to start ANY morning. We had to add another sweet choice for all of you who LOVE the sugary side of the world.

Ingredients

  • 160ml milk

  • 2-3 eggs, whisked

  • 55g caster sugar

  • 60g unsalted butter

  • Few drops of vanilla essence

  • Cinnamon

  • 6 pieces of thick bread

  • Strawberries

  • Maple syrup

  • Cream

 Recipe: 

  1. Mix together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla essence, and cinnamon in a bowl.

  2. Melt butter in a frying pan

  3. Dip bread in egg mixture and cook 2-3 mins for each side.

  4. Repeat until complete.

  5. Serve with strawberries, cream, and maple syrup.
