5 Things No One Tells You When You Detox Your Life

Typically, the new year always revolves around some form of self improvement. Whether that be joining a gym, taking a juice cleanse or even spending less time on social media. Whatever the form of detox may be, it is usually made with the intention of bettering your life, routine and overall health. Whilst the benefits of detoxing are phenomenal, no one really talks about the impact it can have. So here at Fortunate One, we thought when it comes to detoxing, we would have some 'real talk' on the things nobody tells you...

1. Your Social Circle May Shrink

When it comes to detoxing, one of the most critical steps you can take are detoxing your social circle. If a relationship doesn't make you feel good, happy and relaxed 95% of the time - cull it. 2019 is the year of quality over quantity (as decided by us) and whilst this may be one of the harder steps to detoxing your life, usually it's one of the most impactful. Whether that may be culling toxic friendships, partnerships or even those you follow on social media. If they give you anxiety, lack of conifidence or make you question your self worth - time to rid it and bin it.

2. Change Isn't Always Cheap

It can be expensive.

Whether you're detoxing your mind, body or space, these improvements can hurt your wallet. On the flip side, when it comes to detoxing you life, (usually) you are spending less money on the bad stuff and more on the good stuff.

Detoxing Your Body: This doesn't always mean juice cleanses at $130 a week. If a juice cleanse is what you seek, invest in a blender. Realistically, no one is going to commit to a weekly cleanse package long term, so instead of opting for a quick fix, try  a cheaper and more lifelong strategy.

Detoxing Your Mind: Whilst a gym is always a great start to detoxing the mind in relieving stress - it can add up when you include pilates, yoga and your weekly gym memberships. Our suggestion is to commit to a gym that offers all of the above. From spas, to saunas and group fitness - you'll get more variety and more bang for your buck.

Detoxing Your Space: Looking to clear out your space and start fresh? Our suggestion is to do your research. Love a $200 cushion? Chances are, Kmart have one similar at the tenth of the cost.

3. Prepare To Feel Tired

If you decide to quit or refresh some of your daily habits, be ready for your body to feel a little exhausted. If you're cutting out coffee, opt for a caffeine free herbal tea. Or perhaps you want to go to bed earlier and wake up earlier? Give your body and mind some time to ease into it before giving up.

5. It May Not Last As Long As You Intended

Whilst we all have good intentions when it comes to hitting refresh, your 'new year, new me' mantra may not always be a permanent thing - and that's okay. If your detox allowed you to consider the way you live and better yourself in one small way - you're already winning. Our suggestion, focus on one thing at a time, once you ace it - move onto the next.

4. If It Were Easy, Everybody Would Be (Successfully) Doing It

If the process of detoxing your life were easy, everyone would essentially be 'perfect'. If you are considering detoxing your life - cut yourself some slack, remember you're only human.
