A TALE OF TWO CITIES: Jaipur & Marrakech

Jaipur and Marrakech are cities that need no introduction. We’ve spoken about them at length and we’re revisiting them again because of their beauty, uniqueness and the way they make us feel. Jaipur makes us feel like we’re on a grand adventure and Marrakech makes us feel we’re already home. Enter a world of textiles, spice and magical archways that lead to even more enchanting places with us as we explore Jaipur and Marrakech.

"Meet me in the city that shares its hue with a cotton candy sky."

Jaipur. The pink city and home to the Hawa Mahal. According to historians, the intricate lattice designs were added to allow the women of the royal family to observe the everyday life of their people and any festivals celebrated in the street below without being seen. What is it that draws people to the largest city in the state of Rajasthan? Of course, it’s the sherbet coloured royal palace, the textiles decorating the temples, Amer Fort and even the Jantar Matar. Lovebird Elise Cook was there not too long ago dazzling and twirling around the city and it’s our plan to follow her footsteps soon.

“Marrakech taught me colour.”

What comes to mind when you think about this city? Textiles? Crowded bazaars? The Rolling Stones? Yves Saint Laurent? This city effortlessly mixes the past and the present without either time ever taking up too much space. Regardless of where you come from you’re destined for a culture shock because this city is unlike any other city in Morocco or the world. If Russia is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma then Marrakech is a body of water. It ebbs and flows, is both fierce and calm and it’s incredibly vast. There’s no “getting” Marrakech. It’s a city of layers and mystery and is a puzzle that’ll never be solved.
