We may not be conscious of this action, but proper breathing is paramount to the betterment of your overall health and, most importantly, it keeps you alive. Most times we breathe properly without even being aware, so on those days when everything becomes too overwhelming what can you do to ease the stress? Why not try some breathing exercises? Diaphragmatic Breathing

Do this to improve your quality of breathing

Steps

Lie down on your back, bend your knees slightly and keep your head on a pillow.
Position one hand on your upper and another below your rib cage.
Inhale, slowly, through your nose.
Exhale, slowly, through your mouth and feel your stomach muscles tighten. 
Continue this for 5-10 minutes, 3 to 4 times per day. 

Lion’s Breath 

This is an energising yoga breathing exercise that will relieve tension in your chest and face

Steps

Sit with your legs folded and apart. 
Press your palms to the floor with your hands facing your thighs.
Deeply inhale through your nose and keep your eyes wide open.
Open your mouth wide, and exhale while making a long ‘ha’ sound. 
Look up while you do so.
Breathe in through your nose, and repeat the exhale pattern.
Do this exercise 2 or 3 times. 

Deep Breathing

Amazing way to decrease oncoming stress.

Steps

Bring your elbows back to let your chest expand.
Inhale deeply through your nose.
Keep this breath for 5 counts.
Slowly exhale and repeat this exercise until you feel more grounded. 

Sitali Breath

Relax your mind, and try to sit in a location where the air is quite clear.

Steps

Sit in a comfortable position.
Place your tongue out and curl your tongue into your mouth (if you can’t do this, purse your lips instead)
Inhale slowly through your mouth.
Exhale slowly out through your nose.
Continue this for 5 minutes.
